Marie Brassard (Montreal)
Presented by Theatre Junction
Theatre/Music/Video
From the origins of the world, to tales of childhood and altered states induced by morphine, Me Talking to Myself in the Future is a poetical piece reflecting upon time and death. A surreal self-portrait, this solo performance also featuring musicians performing a live score, is constructed as a dream conversation between actress Marie Brassard and an imagined old woman travelling back in time. Desire, pain, drugs, daydreams and night dreams all trigger imagination and open a breach into the borders of distorted states. Marie Brassard is one of Canada’s foremost theatre artists and for more than a decade has also collaborated with playwright/director Robert Lepage.

| | Time: 08:00 pm - 10:00 pm / Location: The Studio at Vertigo Theatre Centre (Base of the Calgary Tower 101 9th Avenue Southwest) November 15, 2012 Gruesome Playground Injuries – a humorous, twisted vision of love and friendship in a darkly compassionate drama.

Billed as “an accidental love story”, the 2009 play explores a tender, twisted friendship between an injury-prone boy and a depressive girl. After colliding in a nurse’s office when they were eight, they continue to be strangely drawn closer together over 30 years through a weird sequence of injuries and accidents. Gruesome Playground Injuries has played across the U.S., in Australia and Toronto to audiences that have applauded its unique, bold way of blending heavy themes with a playful quirkiness.
New York’s Daily News’ calls it “Irresistibly odd and exciting… Rajiv Joseph’s most satisfying work.” And from Variety “This wondrous strange two-hander finds as much humor as horror in the play’s bizarre events.” The New York Times adds this testament: “Up-and-coming dramatist Rajiv Joseph is an artist of original talent.”
Gruesome Playground Injuries by Rajiv Joseph and produced by Ground Zero Theatre (GZT) and Hit & Myth (H&M) plays November 10–24 Tuesday – Saturday evenings at 8pm at The Studio at Vertigo Theatre Centre (base of the Calgary Tower.)

SHADOW
showcasing works by
Gwenessa Lam (Vancouver, BC)
Exhibition runs November 2 to November 29, 2012.
Incorporating shadows found in situ, Lam considers the physical traces of objects, studying their shapes not only as an absence of light but also as an attempt to capture their temporary presence. Shadow is a series of paintings and a wall drawing that isolate the shadows cast from everyday and museum objects, leaving the original objects removed from sight. Through this simple omission, Lam explores how the visual residue of the shadow relates to memory and loss, and by extension, how objects are assigned value and meaning.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Gwenessa Lam is a visual artist based in Vancouver. She received her BFA from the University of British Columbia and MFA from New York University. She has exhibited nationally and internationally at venues such as the Bronx Museum of the Art, Queens Museum of Art in New York, Republic Gallery, and Center A. Gwenessa was recently an artist-in-residence at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, and has been awarded residencies at the Banff Center and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
