June 14, 2012 The 1912 Calgary Stampede. There was no midway and there were no horse shows. But there was a rodeo and the artwork of Charlie Russell. Known then as the Famous Cowboy Artist, Russell created art that connected deeply with ranchers and cowboys in the West. His \"Special Exhibition\" of 20 paintings was a huge draw at the first Calgary Stampede.
Glenbow is pleased to celebrate the Stampede\'s centenary by recreating this 1912 exhibition, which will include 18 of the 20 paintings exhibited in 1912. From Russell\'s glorious western landscapes and \"heroic\" depictions of First Nations (Stolen Horses) to some of his most famous action paintings featuring cattle (Heads and Tails), cowboys (In Without Knocking and Smoke of the \"45\") and outlaws (Call of the Law), this exhibition is truly a once in-a-lifetime opportunity to see some of the best works painted by this iconic western artist.
Heralded as \"a magnificent collection of western pictures\" in 1912, Russell\'s exhibition was incredibly successful, both critically and financially. Today, Russell scholars and collectors are already anticipating the return of this special exhibition to Calgary.

At the heart of our health care missions, we provide medical aid including mobile laboratory blood and urine analysis, X-rays, Electrocardiograms (ECG's), and a full on site pharmacy for treatment. Simultaneously the community’s immediate health concerns are addressed through health education in disease prevention. Finally, to insure

Oil & Water – Artistic Fraud (St. John’s, Newfoundland)
Opening the festival is Oil & Water, by Newfoundland’s award-winning Artistic Fraud. Oil & Water is the theatrical retelling of the incredible true story of Lanier Phillips. Shipwrecked aboard the US Truxton in 1942, Mr. Phillips was the only African- American survivor. What happened to this son of the racially segregated south at the hands of the residents of the nearby town of St. Lawrence, NL forever altered his world. Featuring an a cappella score blending Newfoundland folk tradition with African-American gospel.

Ignorance – The Old Trout Puppet Workshop (Calgary, Alberta) A favourite of the Magnetic North Festival is Calgary’s Old Trout Puppet Workshop with their newest creation, Ignorance, a puppet documentary about the evolution of happiness. Happiness - where did it come from and where did it go? As a current society, we’ve got microwaves, airplanes, and a nagging sense of dissatisfaction – but our prehistoric ancestors, stamping their grubby feet by firelight in triumph over the corpse of a mastodon, might just have felt more at home in the world. With much grunting and gnawing on bones, the Old Trouts explain where we went wrong, and how we might find our way once again.
