1-2-3-GO! A 3 Things For Calgary Event!

Time: 01:00 pm - 04:00 pm / Location: John Dutton Theatre, Calgary Central Library (616 Macleod Trail SE)
May 26, 2012

May 26th

Last Fall, Mayor Nenshi challenged Calgarians to do 3 simple things to try and make Calgary a better place:

1) THINK about 3 Things you can do to make Calgary better.
2) DO those 3 Things
3) ENCOURAGE 3 more people to do the same.

The 3 Things you choose are up to you. Large or small, every action we take makes a difference, and if every Calgarian did at least 3 Things for Calgary, we'd have more than 3 million actions making Calgary an even better city!

Mayor Nenshi challenged all Calgarians to have their 3 Things completed "before the tulips blossom." Granted, here in Calgary, that could easily be in June or July due to the weather, but some reports indicate that the tulips are indeed blooming as we speak.

So, how did you do, Calgary? Are you still looking for a "thing" to do? Wanna do more?

Then come to our 1-2-3 GO! event where you can choose one of three simple things to do to make Calgary a better place!

The "Things" are *secret* right now but hints will be posted on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/3-Things-for-Calgary/246421078725981) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/3ThingsYYC) in the coming weeks.

For now:

- Thing #1 will feature both citizens and the Mayor's Office
- Thing #2 is family friendly, outdoors and fun
- Thing #3 will give you ideas and help to do your own "Thing"

This event is ideal for families and we encourage you to invite friends and neighbours, too. Cookies and coffee will be available but we encourage you to bring your own mug. Balloons, photo/video opportunities and mingling are included!

So come down for an afternoon of fun and do something simple to make Calgary a better place to be.

Make sure to RSVP at:

3 Things for Calgary is an initiative of the Mayor's Civic Engagement Committee.

When That I Was

Time: 07:00 pm - 08:30 pm / Location: Vertigo Theatre's Studio, 115 9 Ave SE
May 26, 2012

This tour-de-force performance won Betty Mitchell Awards for Best Actor (Christopher Hunt) and Best Director (Vanessa Porteous).
In 1650 the Puritans have closed the theaters and old Jack Rice, once a famous actor, is now is down on his luck. As a boy, he performed in Shakespeare's troupe, and he’s snuck back into the deserted theatre for some shelter. He himself is nothing more than a dusty, abandoned scrap of humanity - but his memory can take us to Queen Elizabeth’s palace, to the opening night of King Lear, and everywhere in between.

As an aging artist lost in a world that has moved on, Jack Rice speaks to the need for beauty and meaning in a world that sometimes lacks both.

The Uses of Enchantment

Time: All Day Event / Location: EPCOR CENTRE’s Ledge Gallery (+15 Centre Court)
May 26, 2012

Running until May 27th

By seeking to stimulate collective-memory through a short nostalgic narrative of the fairytale Jack and the Beanstalk, Calgary-based artist Erin Belanger showcases how a simplistic fable can operate on a deep level to reveal universal truths. Participants are encouraged to question what is truly of value to them by playfully bartering for some enchanted beans.

The Uses of Enchantment is a fun, interactive exhibition to remind people that magic does exist in the world. Through horticulture graffiti, Belanger investigates nostalgia, collections and the artificial as a means of access to collective-memory.
