Join us every Thursday evening for yycARTS CoLAB to learn about and participate in the process of artistic discovery in a casual, open environment. Next week's CoLAB takes place on First Thursday, April 5th.
yycARTS CoLAB is a free program that provides an opportunity for the public and artists of different disciplines to collaborate in real-time and be inspired to interact and explore in a welcoming and inclusive environment, embarking on a journey of artistic discovery.
yycARTS CoLAB evenings are curated by Vi An Diep, an active Calgary artist who will organize artists from across a wide variety of disciplines to share their craft with participants. Vi An acts as both facilitator and host, guiding artists and public participants through the dynamic creative process while welcoming the curiosity, expression and contribution of all who choose to join in. | | Time: 07:00 pm - 08:30 pm / Location: Vertigo Theatre's Studio, 115 9 Ave SE May 25, 2012 This tour-de-force performance won Betty Mitchell Awards for Best Actor (Christopher Hunt) and Best Director (Vanessa Porteous).
In 1650 the Puritans have closed the theaters and old Jack Rice, once a famous actor, is now is down on his luck. As a boy, he performed in Shakespeare's troupe, and he’s snuck back into the deserted theatre for some shelter. He himself is nothing more than a dusty, abandoned scrap of humanity - but his memory can take us to Queen Elizabeth’s palace, to the opening night of King Lear, and everywhere in between.
As an aging artist lost in a world that has moved on, Jack Rice speaks to the need for beauty and meaning in a world that sometimes lacks both. Website: www.shakespearecompany.com |

| | Time: All Day Event / Location: EPCOR CENTRE’s Ledge Gallery (+15 Centre Court) May 25, 2012 Running until May 27th
By seeking to stimulate collective-memory through a short nostalgic narrative of the fairytale Jack and the Beanstalk, Calgary-based artist Erin Belanger showcases how a simplistic fable can operate on a deep level to reveal universal truths. Participants are encouraged to question what is truly of value to them by playfully bartering for some enchanted beans.
The Uses of Enchantment is a fun, interactive exhibition to remind people that magic does exist in the world. Through horticulture graffiti, Belanger investigates nostalgia, collections and the artificial as a means of access to collective-memory. Website: www.epcorcentre.org/ |
